Motorola Edge 70 Max leaks hint at the joy of magnets
Motorola’s next premium mid-range phone is shaping up to be one of its most interesting yet.
A fresh certification has all but confirmed that the upcoming Edge 70 Max will support Qi2 wireless charging with built-in magnets. This puts it among a very small group of Android phones to fully embrace the standard.
A new listing from the Wireless Power Consortium identifies the Motorola Edge 70 Max under model number XT2611, with Qi 2.2.1 certification and the MPP25 (Magnetic Power Profile). That means the phone should support magnetic accessories in much the same way Apple’s MagSafe does. It will also offer wireless charging speeds of up to 25W.
The certification, dated 29 June 2026, doesn’t reveal everything about the handset. Nevertheless, it backs up earlier leaks suggesting Motorola is bringing magnets directly into the phone. The company is not just relying on magnetic cases.
That’s still surprisingly uncommon on Android. Even the best Android phones like Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series are only “Qi2 Ready” and require compatible cases to add magnets. As a result, that opens the door to magnetic chargers, power banks, wallets and even camera grips snapping straight onto the device.
The Edge 70 Max is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. It should also have a 50MP main camera using a Sony Lytia sensor. Additionally, it will reportedly arrive with a MIL-STD-810H-certified chassis and launch in green, light blue and black finishes.
The certification image itself appears to use an older placeholder render dated 2024. Therefore, it isn’t expected to reflect the final design.
Motorola hasn’t announced the Edge 70 Max yet, but certifications like this typically arrive shortly before launch. With Qi2 magnets, faster wireless charging and flagship-grade hardware, the Edge 70 Max could end up being one of the few premium mid-range Android phones. It can offer features that have largely remained exclusive to Apple’s MagSafe ecosystem.
